Secondary Teaching for Mastery Lesson Design Twilights
FREE Secondary Teaching for Mastery Introductory Lesson Design Twilight Sessions
Postponed until further notice due to government advice on non-face to face activity.
Please keep checking for further announcements for alternative provision.
Join our secondary colleagues for an afternoon of carefully crafted lesson design providing a step by step, conceptual journey of a single concept to be decided by the group.
The project will focus on collaboratively designing a lesson, making use of key resources such as the Secondary Mastery Professional Development materials, a range of text books and teacher knowledge. There has been a large investment in available resources and making effective use of them will support schools in embedding teaching for mastery in mathematics. It will be an opportunity for teachers to reflect on how these materials can be best used to support the planning process to develop subject and pedagogical knowledge.
Outcomes
Participants should gain a deep understanding of the elements of effective lesson design and how the big ideas of mastery influence this, particularly regarding small steps of learning. Collaboratively, they will be given the opportunity to make decisions about why to include or leave out certain questions, and when to supplement the materials with their own. Teachers are expected to share their learning with their department and this will impact on the maths learning across the department; developing confident mathematicians in their classrooms.
Expectations
Participants will be expected to attend both workshops. Colleagues from a school will work collaboratively to design, reflect and evaluate lessons. Participants will be expected to offer their feedback on the Mastery Professional Development Materials as well as the lessons that they collaboratively design
You will also find out more about the many funded Teaching for Mastery and professional development opportunities available.
