Subject Knowledge Enhancement

 

This Work Group has been designed to support teachers who wish to develop their subject knowledge and pedagogical approaches in order that their pupils master the mathematics they are taught.

 

Teachers’ will

 

  • Develop their subject knowledge alongside an increased understanding of the mathematics content of the National Curriculum, how connections within mathematics can be made and an awareness of how children learn.
  • Understand the principles of Mastery and Growth Mindset.

 

Audience:

 

Primary teachers, not involved in teaching for mastery, who would like to develop their subject knowledge and pedagogy and who are able to lead changes in mathematics teaching within their year group and, over time, the school. Teachers must attend all 3 days.

 

Day 1: 21st January 9:30 – 3:30

 

Focus: Number sense and place value

 

Day 2: 19th March 9:30 – 3:30

 

Focus: Fractions, including decimals and percentages

 

Day 3: 26th April 9:30 – 3:30

 

Focus: Additive reasoning and multiplicative reasoning (including ratio)

 

 

There will be gap tasks between days aimed to develop classroom practice where teachers try out activities which promote depth of understanding, reasoning and fluency.
