Support Staff Maths Training - Work Group 2

This Work Group has been designed to develop KS1 and KS2 specific Subject Knowledge for Teaching Assistants to enable them to support and/or deliver mathematics in the classroom or in small intervention groups. The programme consists of three morning sessions throughout the year.

Primary Teaching Assistants will

• Develop subject knowledge and explore key conceptual understanding of mathematics with a focus on the importance of mastery
• Develop questioning to support and deepen children’s understanding of mathematical concepts as well as exploring how to identify and address children’s misconceptions through the careful use of resources and modelling.

Audience:

Teaching Assistant’s working within the classroom as well as at those running additional intervention groups outside the classroom.  Participants must attend all 3 sessions.

Day 1:  Friday 23rd November 2018  (9:00 – 11:00)

Focus: Place Value

Day 2: Friday 15th February 2019  (9:00 – 11:00)

Focus: addition and subtraction

Day 3: Friday 5th April 2019  (9:00 – 11:00)

Focus: multiplication and division
