Support Staff Maths Training
This Work Group has been designed to develop KS1 and KS2 specific Subject Knowledge for Teaching Assistants to enable them to support and/or deliver mathematics in the classroom or in small intervention groups. The programme consists of three half day sessions throughout the year.
Primary Teaching Assistants will
- Develop questioning to support and deepen children’s understanding of mathematical concepts as well as explore how to address children’s misconceptions through the careful use of resources and modelling
- Develop subject knowledge in mathematics and explore key mathematical vocabulary.
Audience:
Teaching Assistant’s working within the classroom as well as at those running additional intervention groups outside the classroom. The interactive hands-on sessions will be led by maths SLEs and experienced senior leaders. Participants must attend all 3 sessions.
Day 1: Tuesday 20th November 2018 (13.30 - 15.30)
Focus: Place Value
Day 2: Friday 15th February 2019 (13.30 - 15.30)
Focus: addition and subtraction
Day 3: Tuesday 2nd April 2019 (13.30 - 15.30)
Focus: multiplication and division
