The development of support materials and strategies for assessing mathematics

Collaborative work to produce and subsequent training on a package of materials (progression documents) for schools to use to aid planning and assessment of mastery and greater depth across the KS1 and 2 phases.                            

Work Group outcomes

The package of materials produced including the NCETM Mastery documents will be available for schools to use to aid planning and assessment of mastery and greater depth across KS1 and KS2.

The teachers involved in producing the materials will have a greater understanding of progression in the National Curriculum; the pitch and expectations for each programme of study; and a greater understanding of the age-related expectations for the end of each year.

The participants of the training using the materials will be more skilled in:

  • planning for reasoning and use of questioning
  • planning and designing tasks using variation and microscopic progression
  • assessing using a variety of assessment strategies

Participants of the training and the teachers involved in producing the materials will have a greater understanding of moderation processes, using the standardised materials in the package.
