Developing materials to support teaching to greater depth

Developing materials to support teaching to greater depth

In this project the hub are looking for teachers and subject leads to work collaboratively to develop a suite of materials to support teaching to greater depth. In addition to this, some CPD around teaching for mastery and greater depth will be provided.

A key element of teaching for mastery is the shift tin mind-set towards differentiation. With a greater emphasis and focus on deepening learning within the same concepts rather than accelerating children onto new learning content.

The purpose of this group is to develop teachers understanding of teaching for depth and working collaboratively with a selection of teachers (including those who have been Shanghai partnership schools in 2015/16) to develop a bank of materials including questions which can support deeper thinking in maths lessons at primary level. These created materials will also be formatted and made available to share through the hub and across other hubs.   .

Work Group outcomes:

  • To create a bank of materials to support teaching for mastery and achieving / evidencing depth
  • To develop the professional understanding of teaching for depth of participants
  • To develop pupil challenge and perseverance to maths in schools involved
